PURCHASE YOUR AAU MEMBERSHIP BY OCTOBER 1ST!

We are making a big change for this upcoming competitive year. Starting this 2021-2022 season, we will no longer be competing under USA Gymnastics. As some of you know, there has been a lot of scandal, betrayal and abuse that was allowed under USAG in the elite level.  As more and more new information comes to light regarding these situations, we no longer feel that Gemini should be associated with USAG. With that being said, this year we will compete under AAU (Amateur Athletic Union). It has been around for 126 years, and their motto is “Sports for all, forever.” Here is some general information about competing under AAU gymnastics:

  • Xcel levels are THE SAME under AAU as USAG
  • Coaches will take a “Positive Coaching Alliance” class to coach under AAU
  • Registration fee per individual athlete is $14 for the year
  • We will still compete 4 meets during the season- meet schedule will be announced as soon as we know
  • All meets will be local
  • State meet will still take place with an option to compete at a National Meet

Your child will need to be signed up with AAU BEFORE OCTOBER 1 in order to compete the 2021-2022 season.

Here is how to register your child for AAU gymnastics:

  1. Go to AAUgymnastics.org
  2. Find “Membership” in the upper right and click “Membership Overview” in the pull down
  3. Click the BLUE “Join Now” button under “Athletes (Individual) on the right
  4. Click on the GREEN “Get a Membership” button
  5. Click on the GREEN “Youth Athletes Membership”
  6. For the Sport, click on “GYMNASTICS” in the pull down (NOT ACROBATIC)
  7. Click “regular” for coverage
  8. Click “Current Membership Year” for the term
  9. For the club- click “Yes” and type in our zipcode (60525) and Gemini should be the first option in the pull down
  10. Click “NO” to signing up for CaptainU
  11. Agree to terms and conditions and proceed to shopping cart (you will see your athlete’s name for the registration amount of $14.00) Click “Checkout”
  12. On the next screen- Create an Account and finish your purchase. You will automatically be added to our club roster as AAU members for Gemini.

Bronze Team Bundle

Dear Xcel Bronze Families,

It’s time to prepare for a fun competition season! This letter includes information about Competition Apparel and Team Bundle Fee Requirements at Gemini.

With that in mind, please make sure you have your Gemini account in good standing. The Xcel Team Fee Bundle will need to be paid by November 1, 2021, in order to be eligible for the competition season. This is an additional charge to your regular tuition.

Competition Apparel

Ozone Leotards sent us sizers for the Competition Leos & warm-ups last month. The coaches determined what size would be ordered for your child. Bronze gymnasts will need the following team gear: Tank style Gemini leotard, Gemini warm-up jacket & leggings, Gemini Slides & Gemini backpack.

We are on a 2-year cycle with our competitive team gear. This is year 1 of 2, meaning that next year we will have the same leotard (UNLESS your gymnast moves up from the “Bronze” level), warm-ups and backpack. We kept this in mind while sizing your gymnasts to ensure a little bit of wiggle room for growth.

We will notify you when team gear arrives. These items will be distributed to all athletes that have paid the Bronze Xcel Team Bundle in full & have their Gemini account in good standing.

2021-2022 Xcel Bronze Team Fee Bundle includes:

  • Meet entry fees for the In-house meet (December 2021) & 4 regular season meets
  • Coaches’ fees
  • ALL TEAM GEAR: Tank Leotard, Gemini warm-up jacket and leggings, Gemini slides and Gemini Backpack

The Xcel Bronze Team Fee Bundle is $1,150. This amount is DUE by November 1st– This will be divided into 3 installments payable September-November on the 1st of each month. Please let us know if you prefer to pay all at once.

*A separate letter will be sent soon including general meet information and Athlete Registrations for the 2021-2022 season.* Until then- any questions can be sent to kristi@nullgeminigymnasticsacademy.com

Xcel Drop-off & Pick-up

All Xcel classes will enter through the garage door and be dismissed from the FRONT DOOR of the building.

Please DO NOT park in the Drop-Off line when picking up your gymnast. This messes with the flow of other classes.

If your daughter is ever late to class and the garage door is closed, please just send her through the Front Entrance!

Xcel Team Semi-Private Lessons Explained

Hello Xcel Parents,

Thank you for your patience waiting for more information about the Xcel Semi-Private lessons AND for bringing the need for explanation to our attention! Xcel Semi-Private lessons were introduced in August 2020. As we edited our Spring communications for new team members, we forgot to include information about them as Xcel Semi-Privates did NOT exist a year ago.

Sign up for the correct level of your gymnast (Bronze, 1st year Silver, 2nd year Silver, 1st year Gold, Gold/Plat) to keep similar skill sets together. Xcel Team members may sign up for 1 Xcel Semi-Private for their Xcel level per month. We only have enough coach availability to allow for each gymnast to sign up for 1 Semi-Private lesson/month.

At this time, we cannot accommodate additional semi-private lessons even if you would like to pay for more as our team coaches are also teaching our recreational & preschool classes. We are still in an “all hands on deck” staffing situation with Covid.

Up to 2 gymnasts, of the same level, receive 1 hour of instruction with an Xcel Team coach. Sometimes only 1 gymnast signs up for a time slot so then they receive 1 on 1 instruction.

Please note that classes are in session during the Semi-Privates so equipment availability is not guaranteed. During Xcel Semi-Private lessons, gymnasts work on skills/drills that their regular coach has requested extra practice on &/or appropriate skills/drills for the level of the gymnasts, per their request.

Chris Campbell

Grow. Strong.

Welcome to the 2021-2022 Xcel Team

Beginning May 1st, we will transition to our 2021-2022 season. We are hopeful that we will feel safe to participate in in-person meets this next season.

Please understand that Xcel level requirements can be fulfilled with a wide range of skills. Your gymnast will be working on expanding their skill set for the upcoming competitive season. Gymnastics is very much a “use it or lose it” sport. While we drill parts of skills using a non-linear pedagogy, gymnastics skills themselves are learned & build upon each other in a linear fashion.

While gymnasts progress at their own rate, it is important to understand that each gymnast must demonstrate consistency as well as coach-ability of her skills so coaches can safely progress her to the next challenge. It is with that in mind, that strong attendance facilitates each gymnast’s overall Gemini experience.

We hope that your gymnast has loved her virtual season & will continue with us for the 2021-2022 season. Please mark your calendars with the expanded practice time beginning May 1st!

Xcel gymnasts will learn choreography for balance beam & floor routines at workshops during the Summer/Fall of 2021. These workshops will be in addition to the practices that are focused on skill acquisition. Dates and times of workshops will be announced in June.

All Xcel gymnasts will be entered into Gemini’s In-House Meet & 4 sanctioned meets for the 2021-2022 season. Our In-House Meet will be held in December 2021, and the remainder of the meets will be TBD in January, February, March and April of 2022. We will inform all families of the meet weekends in the Fall of 2021 once the meet calendar becomes available.

The State Meet is NOT part of the regular season. State Meets require earning a qualifying score at a sanctioned meet by a qualifying deadline. Competing in the State Meet is optional if your gymnast qualifies. If you and your gymnast decide to compete in the State Meet additional costs will be incurred that are not included in the Xcel Competition Bundle.

Happy Handstands!

Chris & Carrie
